Greg Bloomfield July 2010

Welcome to our first update about the work of Greg Bloomfield.

news01Greg is enjoying developing a new area of kinetic sculpture and his first piece was selected to be exhibited in the Shapeshifter exhibition (New Dowse Gallery).  Featuring sculptures from nearly 60 leading and emerging New Zealand artists  shapeshifter is a key visual arts feature of the New Zealand International Arts Festival .

Gregs piece was noted by Cameron Mc Craken in the Dompost::

"shapeshifter is a large and exciting fusion of contemporary sculpture, indoor and out," says shapeshifter artistic director and director of TheNewDowse art museum, Cam McCracken.

"The standard of the fourth biannual shapeshifter is excellent. It features some of New Zealand's top sculptors including Para Matchitt, Don Driver, Graham Bennett, Peter Nicholls and Jenny Smith, as well as talented newcomers to the show like Greg Blomfield whose work has captivated me," he says.

Images of some pieces (including Greg’s) can be seen on the Shapeshifter website.  This work is for sale.

Greg has since created another kinetic sculpture, symbolic of our local Kapiti Island, with its 3 islands, whaling and fishing history.  This work is also now for sale.  We will put video of both theses sculptures on the website.

Greg produced a commission (below) for a client with an Asian theme.  This piece is a beautiful red with tassel handles and leather seat.

news03You may have also read about Greg in recent publications including a profile article in the Indulgence section of the Dompost newspaper in April and in timberDESIGN magazine.

Greg was also a guest speaker at an Auckland timber year. He really enjoyed the opportunity to also find out about the international timber scene, especially such as sustainability. scene, especially in relation to themes of sustainability.
